The "Peek-a-boo" Trick | The German Shepherd
Not the most useful trick in the world for your German Shepherd, but this trick is incredibly adorable (and particularly useful if you want to train your dog in the show business, as having a dog hiding his or her eyes in shame or embarrassment is common in film and television). You want to teach your German Shepherd to close his or her eyes and lean its face on the ground on command. To do this, fill a light spray bottle with clean, non-fizzy water. Spray this in your dog's face (lightly – this isn't a super soaker here!) as you say “hide!” Your German Shepherd will come to associate the mildly unpleasant sensation of being wet with keeping his or her eyes straight towards you as you say “hide” and will eventually learn that “hide” means – effectively – duck! Even if no water is coming at him. This trick might take a while to learn, but it is incredibly cute, and one of the methods used by professional handlers in “the biz” when training dogs. If your German Shepherd can master this trick, then well done!
