German Shepherd Colors | Black, Brown, Solid Black, Sable, Black Saddle and Many More!
So what are we to say about German Shepherd colors? Ever ask anybody what colors these dogs come in? You'd be amazed at the answers, such as "oh, my shepherd is kinda brown, with a bunch of swirls, or my German Shepherd is light tan with some brown rust spots on him (or her!). There are however, solid colors, which we see quite often, such as black and white. But overall, there are a myriad of German Shepherd colors, and hey, that's not a bad thing at all!
Technically speaking, German Shepherd colors consists of the following:
According to the AKC: Strong, rich colors, are preferred". Uh, ok, take that for what it means. But how about the SV, at least they are a little more specific on German Shepherd colors, stating the following:
- Black with reddish-brown, brown, tan, and/or light gray markings.
- Solid-black. Sable with dark overcast.
- Black saddle and mask.
If you ask us at thegermanshepherd.org, we'd have to say that any color is ok, so long as you love and take of your dog, and they love you back.
As for the official colors, well, we'll leave that to the bureaucrats at the AKC and the SV.
